Continuously improving baggage flows
Will my baggage get to the right plane, on time?
Baggage systems are an extensive and complex mix of conveyors, carrousels, screening and sorting machines. Systems are subject to continual change: new sorts and sizes of baggage, changes in security requirements, new technology etc. The software driving these systems is as complex as the systems themselves. Scarabee develops both software and systems and is responsible for their continual update. We manage changes to baggage systems and ensure seamless implementation. Our knowledge of baggage systems is deep and continually improving, as we develop and implement changes in both software and systems to ensure more effective baggage flows.
Effective airport passenger flow management
How can airports shorten border crossing waiting times and improve airport resource management?
Scarabee develops passenger flow analysis and control systems designed to inform passengers and shorten border crossing times. Using a fully-integrated system of cameras and software, passenger flow is monitored real-time and linked to border control staff resource planning. If the flow of passengers increases, extra staff are in place on time to prevent long queues. Displays inform passengers of any waiting times, providing reassurance. Privacy-by design sensors ensure that no sensitive data are stored. Data are used to continually improve existing staff planning models.
Automatic baggage tray return and remote sensing
How can passengers get through security lane baggage checks more quickly?
Scarabee and Herbert Systems have developed an innovative airport security lane and implemented two new lanes at an airport. The new security lanes comply with the latest regulatory security requirements and include remote sensing and automatic baggage tray return, easing security staff workload and improving the passenger experience.

Ensuring up-to-date baggage handling software
How can airports guarantee the continuity of secure baggage handling systems?
Transport Manager sorting and routing software has been effectively driving 25% of Schiphol’s baggage systems for many years. Scarabee developed the original software, and continually updates, tests and implements new releases: Transport Manager is a tried and tested baggage handling solution.
Early Warning System reduces airport bottlenecks
How can airports help passengers and baggage get to the plane on time?
Scarabee designs, develops and implements passenger and baggage airport performance dashboards, providing operators with real-time baggage and passenger flow monitoring. Designed together with the users, the system visualises passenger and baggage flow and any possible bottlenecks. Operators take action to ensure that passengers and their baggage get to the right airplane on time.
How do passengers know whether they are in the right place?
Scarabee and KABA have designed, developed and implemented tailor-made, integrated airport access gate systems. Clever use of clear green lighting indicates which gates are open. Passengers with a valid boarding card receive real-time notification of their departure gate, as well as a warning if they are in the wrong location and where they should be. Security staff can open gates easily using special passes in case of large groups or unforeseen situations, and airport information systems are continually updated.
Faster baggage pick-up for Airbus A380 passengers
How can airports handle a huge peak in baggage pick-up?
Modern, large capacity aircraft carry increasing numbers of passengers and consequently, more baggage. Scarabee designed and developed new software and merged two existing carrousels to a hyper-modern, double-capacity carrousel, ensuring quick and easy baggage pick-up for Airbus A380 passengers.
Screening system seamlessly replaced
How to replace screening systems without passengers noticing.
In response to changing requirements, Scarabee ensures that Level-1 baggage screening systems remain fully compliant. Thanks to the Maxibas simulation system, Scarabee replaced existing screening machines with new and larger ones, on time and with no impact on passenger check-in capacity or on the passengers themselves.
