Munich Airport

The construction of Terminal 1 at Munich Airport is proceeding according to plan and is nearing completion. The new pier will create a future-oriented handling facility for non-Schengen traffic at Terminal 1, with a capacity of up to six million passengers per year – roughly equivalent to the total number of passengers at an airport such as Hanover.

All elements of the passenger bridges have now been delivered and a large part of them have already been assembled to the building. Inside, the expansion is being completed step by step: the gates with the boarding machines have already been largely installed and the baggage handling system has also been built in. The numerous catering, shopping, and waiting areas for passengers will follow in the coming weeks.

Scarabee is supplying 12 full-size Smart Security Lanes for this new terminal on behalf of the government of Upper Bavaria. The first two lanes have been delivered and are being tested by the airport’s security provider, SGM. The remaining 10 lanes will follow in stages.

The new lanes in Terminal 1 will be white, in contrast to the Scarabee lanes in Terminal 2, which are black.

With a length of approximately 360 meters, the terminal building covers an area of approximately 95,000 square meters. The expansion will allow up to twelve smaller aircraft or six large aircraft to be parked simultaneously.

Following a trial period in the coming months, the expansion will be put into operation in the first half of 2026. FMG is investing a total of €665 million in the project.
